Transit Dreams
Washington, D.C. based artist Walter Kravitz was commissioned to design, fabricate, and install a unique work of public art for the Memphis Area Transit Authority's (MATA) new Airways Transit Center, which opened in fall 2011. Transit Dreams utilizes vibrant colors and the whimsical aesthectic present in Kravitz's past work to convey a sense of movement and animation. The dynamic work is suspended from the ceiling, behind the facility's glass facade where it captures the natural light and casts colorful shadows throughout the space.
Designed by brg3s architects, this multimodal facility with a LEED Silver sustainability certification, received a Design Merit Award from the Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2012.
