Artist's Bio

PRINCIPALS:  Gregg LeFevre completed his first public sculpture in 1974.  In addition to his public work, he maintains an active photography career and has exhibited widely in this country.  Gregg has received grants from the Browne Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts as well as a Coleman Award.  His work has received attention from numerous publications including Sculpture Magazine, The New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe.  He has also published two books.

Jennifer Andrews received her degree in painting and printmaking in 1997, and continues to exhibit work that investigates the structure of memory, myth and our modern connection to the natural world.  She has worked as an artist in residence in Vietnam and the Netherlands and enjoys exploring the individual and collective stories of the people she meets in her travels.

THE STUDIO:  Andrews LeFevre Studios works in most contemporary sculptural mediums in a variety of styles and venues.  Located in Manhattan, our studio is equipped with full design, fabrication, finishing and installation capabilities.  This means we oversee the production of our work from start to finish, ensuring that both quality and vision are sustained throughout every step.  It has always been important to us to maintain a high level of craft, and we believe this commitment is in large part what attracts people to our work.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:  Beneath every location and institution there lies an untold, nearly forgotten history.  It is this historic sense of place that informs our public artwork.  The idea of capturing the lost stories and alternative histories, of illustrating the tragic and comic events that give a place its personality continually inspires our work.  Many of our projects take the form of relief pieces inset in the ground in series and often serve to bring people together to contemplate what makes their communities and cultures unique.

Our projects always take into consideration the specific needs of the site as well as the public who will interact with the work.  Andrews LeFevre Studios’ success has been built on collaboration with architects, community groups, civic organizations and government agencies.  These partnerships are a vital part of our creative process.  Additionally, the research methods we have developed over many projects help us uncover and elucidate the details that distinguish each client.
