UrbanArt Project of the Month
Project Description:
Nancy Cheairs is truly one of Memphis' most well known artists. She has consistently shown in solo and group exhibitions in Memphis, within the region, and as far away as New York for over 20 years, developing an admiring following in the process.
For her project in the Children's Area at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library in Memphis, Cheairs created a three-dimensional version of her paintings of the time. Using the different symbols and colors found in her two-dimensional work, the Children's Area embodies a curious sense of whimsy that appeals to both children and adults alike.
A native Memphian, Nancy has work in public and private collections, including First Tennessee Bank, Memphis, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
